SCARE in Nepal

As part of the SCARE project, researchers from Kathmandu University (KU) did surveys and focus group discussions to learn how communities manage household sanitation. Communities were asked about their perceptions of climate change, whether they had experienced changing climate patterns and about their experience managing household sanitation and accessing faecal waste management services.

The participants, mostly female, belonged to local groups that raise money for community improvements and are responsible for making decisions about household sanitation. In several flood-prone communities, residents have built toilets on raised platforms to prevent flood water from entering the toilet. There was some perception of climate change and most of the participants have noticed increasing temperatures in the summer.
